Summary

Griffle is a learning platform for kids ages 4-16, built around a companion creature that’s born the moment a child registers. As they read, learn, and complete quizzes, their Griffle levels up and grows alongside them.

Learning tied to a living companion

Instead of a typical progress bar or points system, Griffle ties learning directly to the growth of a creature the child creates when they sign up. Every quiz completed and lesson read helps that Griffle grow — turning study time into something kids want to come back to.

Designing for a wide age range

With users spanning ages 4 to 16, the interface needed to feel playful and approachable for younger kids while still holding up for older ones. I focused on a visual language flexible enough to work across that whole range without feeling babyish or, at the other end, too childish for teens.

A growth system kids stay motivated by

The Griffle itself became the emotional core of the platform – a visible, evolving reward that made progress feel personal rather than abstract, encouraging consistent engagement with reading and quizzes over time.
